With the spread of massage salons, I believe there is a common misconception about “shiatsu” as just another form of massage that is sold off in terms of time slots and performed in a fixed way on anyone regardless of their body type. However, there is actually much greater depth to shiatsu unknown to many.

I started "Megumi Shiatsu Clinic" as a means of promoting authentic Japanese shiatsu for people who are looking for a traditional natural therapy to help strengthen their innate healing ability. As a holistic healing system rooted in TCM, traditional Japanese wisdom and medical science, shiatsu works with each individual’s distinctive body and its own wisdom to restore good health and active self-recovery. There is no such thing as a stereotypical “perfect body”. The path and means to a healthy mind, body and life should be as diverse, dynamic and personal to each human being. Thus, a skilled and professional shiatsu therapist is trained to communicate with his or her patient’s body using a pair of warm hands and what we call a “motherly heart”: to diagnose any illnesses or blockages through physical touch and work on the Meridians and acupoints of the body to bring about balance and harmony. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience, but the process is deeply fulfilling and restorative to both the receiver and giver. This is my ikigai in life, to help bring out the best of your body, mind and soul as well as the quality of your life through genuine Japanese shiatsu. I’m blessed to be provided with a warm pair of hands, and a rich body of knowledge passed down from countless teachers.
